1st August : fireworks festival with Mt. Fuji in lake yamanaka.
Have you ever seen the collaboration between Mount Fuji and fireworks?
It is an incredibly beautiful sight.
On August 1st, there is a festival at Lake Yamanaka with fireworks. It’s very beautiful, so please go and see it.
From this day until August 5th, there will be festivals at the five lakes “Fujigoko” every day for five days.
Origin of the festival “The Houkosai”.
The origin of the Houkosai festival can be traced back to the Taisho era. It was named by journalist Sohou Tokutomi, Ryobei Horiuchi, the founder of Fuji Kyuko, and the village mayor at the time. The festival serves several primary purposes:
- Respect and Remembrance for the Deceased: The festival honors and commemorates those who have passed away.
- Prayers for Protection from Disasters: It also aims to offer gratitude for the blessings of the lake and pray for the community’s safety from disasters.
Houkosai consists of religious ceremonies and a grand fireworks display, making it a beloved summer event for the residents of Yamanakako Village. Held every summer, it kicks off the series of fireworks festivals around the Fuji Five Lakes.
This festival deeply reflects the history, culture, and sentiments of the local community and continues to be cherished by many people today.
